This research approaches the Besòs River through listening as a method of
territorial inquiry. Rather than simply listening to the river, the project asks how the river listens to us, proposing a reciprocal relationship capable of revealing material persistences, geological memories, infrastructural residues, and social
transformations that remain inscribed within the territory even after processes of
ecological regeneration.

The methodological core of the project is the creation of hydrophone sculptures:
resonant devices conceived as tools for territorial mediation. Collectively built
through an open laboratory bringing together artists, residents, students, and
specialists, these sculptures will enable the recording of the Besòs’ underwater
vibrations and provide access to dimensions of river life that usually remain
invisible to everyday perception. Their design will incorporate references to the
basin’s industrial history through the symbolic use of materials associated with the
heavy metals that marked its historical contamination, including lead, zinc, copper,
and nickel.

The river is understood as a living entity that actively participates in the production of multispecies and intergenerational relationships. Rather than working with pre-existing communities, the project seeks to generate a liquid community around
the act of listening: an open and dynamic network of exchange, care, and collective
knowledge production.
